In cake design, similar to the fashion industry, you have to keep up with trends to be able to cater to your clients changing needs… So proper and in depth research is definitely a must. If you are like me and treat your work like your life’s biggest passion you will be doing this automatically without even realising it… I must admit, one of my favourite pastimes is enjoying a good cup of coffee and looking through photos of cakes, wedding dresses, beautiful stationary, styling and so on… There is so much talent out there it is mind blowing!
So what will be a big hit this year then? Here, based on the opinions of wedding industry experts, is my lowdown on the top UK wedding cake trends of 2019!

FERNS

Greenery is nothing new on cakes, but it looks like ferns are going to be THE thing this year. There are already lots of fern motives used on wedding invitations and table decorations and I think they just beautifully complement and soften the bigger and boulder leaves of very popular olive, eucalyptus or monstera.

METALLIC

Give me some gold and I use it every time! In my opinion gold looks absolutely stunning on a cake and even a little amount gives it a touch of chic and glamour. This year we should be seeing a few more metallic colours like silver and beautiful copper popping up!

TEXTURES

It’s all about the detail don’t you think? Whether it is a concrete marble effect or my absolute favourite bas relief they can transform a cake into an eye catching, extraordinary masterpiece!

BOHO

Rustic style wedding has been in fashion for a good few years. There are plenty of beautiful barn venues across the UK that offer a very relaxed and informal style weddings. However the experts say that this year we will see the rustic trend taking on a Boho twist… Think makrames, dreamcatchers, wild flowers and lots of organic textures.
